Natural Habitat
Lake Furnusu Rainbowfish is an endemic species exclusively found in Lake Furnusu, located in the Bird's Neck region of Kaimana Regency, West Papua Province, Indonesia. This beautiful lake is situated at an elevation of 15 m and is approximately 1.5 km away from the sea. However, the lake and the sea are separated by a formidable ridge, rising to an altitude of around 500 m.
Notably, the drainage system in the area is subterranean, a characteristic shared by other lakes in this region that is characterized by rugged limestone karst formations. Within Lake Furnusu, the Lake Furnusu Rainbowfish can be observed gracefully navigating through the depths, specifically below 2 to 3 m. Thriving amidst the abundance of dense vegetation and immersed Pandanus roots, these fish find sanctuary.
Breeding
