Instead, suitable companions may include smaller species of Barbs, Gudgeons, Algae eaters, Danios, and Garras. Given the slight territorial tendencies of Galaxy Loaches towards conspecifics, it is crucial to provide spacious aquarium environments with ample visual barriers within the decor. To mimic the natural environment of the Galaxy Loach, it is advisable to incorporate a sandy substrate and various hideaways made from pebbles, rocks, pieces of slate, and strategically positioned driftwood to disrupt lines of sight. Although aquatic vegetation is not abundant in their fast-flowing native waters, the inclusion of hardy plant species attached to driftwood can enhance water quality, elevate the aesthetic appeal of the aquarium, and provide additional hiding places.
Similar to other freshwater species inhabiting running water environments, the Galaxy Loach is intolerant of nitrate buildup in the aquarium. The Galaxy Loach showcases an elongated body, ranging in colour from yellowish-tan to light brown. It exhibits 7 to 8 distinctive darker brown, vertical bars with dark edges, outlined in black, resembling a snake's patterns. These striking markings extend along the dorsal areas of the fish and continue seamlessly above the plain ventral region, spanning the entire length of the loach's body.

Natural Habitat
The Galaxy Loach is an indigenous species exclusive to the Nilgiri Hills, spanning from western Tamil Nadu state to the Periyar Tiger Reserve in Kerala state, situated in southern India. Within this geographical range, they primarily inhabit the pristine and fast-flowing hill streams. These aquatic environments boast crystal-clear waters and maintain a cool temperature while being adorned with abundant forest cover that provides ample shading. The substrate of these hillstreams is composed of granulated sand, gravel, rocks, and boulders, which are often adorned with a flourishing growth of algae.
Breeding
To date, successful breeding of the Galaxy Loach within the confines of the home aquarium has not been documented. However, based on observations from related species, such as the Zodiac Loach (M. triangularis), it is plausible to infer that their spawning behaviour may exhibit similarities. Further research and observations are required to ascertain the specific breeding habits and requirements of the Galaxy Loach in captivity.
